Facing Fear and Embracing Growth: Wisdom from the Dragon and the Snake
As we begin a new year, I’ve noticed dragons appearing to me in various ways—reminding me of their powerful message.
The Year of the Dragon is coming to a close, and for me, its message has been about bravery—especially when facing fear. This is a beautiful reminder as we enter the Year of the Snake, a time for shedding old skins and stepping into spiritual renewal.
Fear is a very real thing. It’s an instinct designed to keep us safe from harm—right?
Well… yes and no.
Fear can keep us from unnecessary risks, like jumping off cliffs. But if left unchecked, it can also keep us ‘safe’ from perceived threats, like having difficult conversations or addressing wounds in relationships, out of fear of rejection or abandonment.
Becoming Comfortable with Discomfort
As a former athlete, I trained myself to push past physical and mental discomfort. Sometimes, I’d feel butterflies in my stomach on the way to the gym. But over time, I became comfortable with discomfort. I learned to welcome fear because I knew that whenever it showed up, it was a signal of growth waiting just beyond the edge of that feeling.
But I’ll admit—pushing through a tough workout was nothing compared to the fear I felt when it came to facing myself in relationships.
Addressing emotional wounds was far scarier than running a half-marathon up a mountain!
Why? Because these wounds were, more deeply, tied to my relationship with myself. To move past them, I had to stop blaming others, take ownership of my part, and see myself with acceptance and forgiveness.
Terrifying.
And yet, it was also incredibly freeing.
Climbing the Mountain Within
Fast forward to today—I’m deeply grateful that I chose to face that fear. By stepping into it, I found healing and freedom. I let go of old stories about abandonment, rejection, and judgment. I stopped seeing fear as a block and started seeing it as a guide to growth.
This healing process accelerated when I found the Modern Mystery School.
After receiving a Life Activation and the Empower Thyself Initiation, I came home to myself in a way that had illuded me until then.
I realised that my true strength wasn’t my physical endurance or pursuits but my heart. The courage to face my fears with love rather than determination was a higher perspective I reached from time with Modern Mystery School. The love I’ve cultivated for myself is now my greatest power, giving life to all I do. And I want you to know that it can be yours, too.
Fear as a Guide to Freedom
The Dragon reminds us to look fear in the face and to be brave. Heart pounding, trust your inner guidance.
Dragon demands us to be honest about what we fear and to ask ourselves:
What is this fear pointing me toward?
Often, fear is the very signpost that leads us to true freedom.
And if you feel no fear at all? That might be a sign you’re staying too comfortable. Growth happens when we challenge ourselves and step beyond what feels easy.
As we move into the Year of the Snake, let’s all commit to shedding old skins, facing fear, and stepping into a year of healing, growth, and transformation.
Because the magick happens when we choose bravery.
