Embracing the Seasonal Shift: Finding Harmony in Autumn's Reflection

I was bringing in the washing the other morning, and the air felt more damp than usual… have you felt the seasonal shift?

Today is Autumn Equinox, and as the seasonal wheel turns, we bid farewell to the sun-soaked summer days to the reflective and introspective season of Autumn.

So, how was your summer? Mine was busy, busy, busy… I worked hard, did what I could, and now find myself naturally looking for time and space to recap and reflect… do you feel it, too?

As a student of Metaphysics and a nature lover, I have learned that energy flows in cycles… which is a contradiction to our modern culture. Our lifestyles oppose the flow of nature. We aren't built to go, go, go, as our work systems and structures incline us to believe.

We aren't built to be overly passive, either.

The flow of nature shows us that there's time to work, reflect, rebuild and plant new seeds. This is the natural cycle of growth and development.

As humans, we can maximise our efforts when we align ourselves with the flow of nature. We can do this to build businesses, regulate the family, and harmonise ourselves. Notice the ease and flow in your life when you use the flow of nature to your advantage.

Summer, traditionally a work season, reminds me of the old saying, "Make hay while the sun shines." While we no longer send our kids to the fields to make hay, as in the old days, there's still plenty of work and opportunities to make 'hay'.

The sun is at full power during summer and promotes activity. Summer is the time to work and make good on the seeds you planted during Spring. However, in modern days, we holiday during the summer. It's interesting to note this recent disconnection from the flow of nature and the increases in work-related stress… perhaps an article for another day!

Anyway, today is the Autumn Equinox. It's the season of the 'Harvest'—a time to take stock of our growth and progress. This prompts me to ask: What have I learned during these sunlit months? Where did I grow, and what treasures did I unearth?

Look further back at Spring, at the seeds you planted. How did they ripen over the summer? Would I do it differently next time?

We take this season to reflect and also to finalise any loose ends. It's essential to understand precisely where you stand and why. How did you get here, and where are you going? What is your purpose, and did you fulfil your goals? Understanding your place in the universe is vital to living a whole life.

Picture yourself with a warm cup of peppermint tea, an empty notebook, and the gentle hum of nature. This is your time for reflection, regrouping, and considering how to see your harvest through to the end.

What loose ends need tying up?

Think of Autumn in the garden. The final fruits and vegetables are ready to be harvested. The garden needs pruning and tidying up. You wonder how the garden might benefit from more water next year. That that row of strawberries needs more sun so let's clear the garden bed to prevent morning shade. There's reflection, but there's still work to be done!

Also, look ahead for new seeds to be planted. The picture is not complete yet, but there's space for potential, and you can glimpse it from this assessment moment.

This season of reflection and finalisation truly gives you time to regroup and rebuild, as Winter will be here soon enough. It is a time to gather with loved ones, to bunker down and rest. It is a nurturing season that allows you to collect yourself, make plans and fill yourself to the brim with goodness at a much slower pace.

Count your stock. Look and admire at all you have achieved!

The Autumn Equinox marks the transition from the vibrant energy of summer to the contemplative essence of Autumn, a reminder to pause and reflect on the natural cycles of life. As seasons change, so do our lives ebb and flow with moments of growth, productivity, and introspection. Embracing the rhythm of nature allows us to align our efforts with its inherent wisdom, finding harmony and ease in our endeavours.

So, as you sip your peppermint tea and feel the gentle embrace of Autumn's breeze, take this opportunity to tie up loose ends, assess your growth, and envision the seeds you'll plant for the future. Autumn invites us to embrace the nurturing essence of the season, gathering ourselves and our intentions before the quiet introspection of Winter settles in. Embrace this time of reflection, for it offers a precious opportunity to regroup, rebuild, and realign with the natural flow of life.

With love, Cassandra
